CORALVILLE – A Corridor Business Journal panel discussion led by IowaWatch Executive Director and Editor Lyle Muller will look into why many well-educated students move out of state after graduating from an Iowa college or university. The forum, on Wednesday, July 22, is to include possible causes and potential solutions to concerns about this so-called “brain drain.”

The event, which will include breakfast, is to be at the Coralville Marriott Hotel & Conference Center, 300 E. 9th St., will be from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m.

The forum is a collaboration of the Corridor Business Journal and the non-profit Iowa Center for Public Affairs Journalism-IowaWatch, which has produced reports in spring and this summer on the topic.

Scheduled panelists are:

  • Dee Baird, Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance
  • D. Allan Boettger, The University of Iowa Pomerantz Career Center
  • Stephen Gruber-Miller, a former IowaWatch reporter now with the Iowa City Press-Citizen
  • Jacque Patterson, ACT Inc.
  • Maria Vognsen, UnitedHealth Group
  • Tim White, Whirlpool Corporation


Audience members will be invited to ask questions and make comments after panelists have made opening remarks.
