An Update on Disabled Vets Stuck in Backlog Limbo

By Center for Investigative Reporting and The Bay Citizen [http://www.iowawatch.org/?s=CIP&submit.x=0&submit.y=0&submit=Go] Iowa response times included in interactive map, shared with public affairs journalism newsrooms

Why you can trust Investigate Midwest

The Bay Citizen has updated an interactive map that shows the number of veterans waiting for benefits at each of the Department of Veterans Affair’s 58 regional offices. The map adds a new level of data for comparison: month-to-month and year-over-year.

The Bay Citizen is a nonprofit news organization and part of the Center for Investigative Reporting. It has been reporting since summer 2012 on disabled troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, and the VA’s stack of disability benefit claims that lead to processing delays of six months or more.

The story is below. The map is behind the story.
